About this beta
New here? Demo Jail is in beta. Hit the radio and listen to some demos! Hear the bands playing in your town this week! Bands: post your demos here. Spot a bug? Tell us.
Got some old demos that no one ever heard and eventually got lost in the sea of streaming music? Please post them here! The goal of this site (besides bands annoying friends and family with new demos) is to allow music to 'bubble' up from the sea of songs and get heard... we are here to help people discover the lost gems that are out there (and I know for a fact there are MANY :), and to allow communities and local scenes to thrive, even in a world where AI can produce unlimited songs and flood the other streaming sites unchecked. We CAN and will use tech to make this work for the artists and communities that deserve to be heard.
This site is fresh out of the oven, and in beta. We are actively reaching out to bands and fans to get the ball rolling. If you find any issues, please tell us on the feedback page. It's the real, live database: bands, songs and mixtapes you add now will all still be here when the site opens to everyone. I'm still finishing some features, but the idea is everything I always wished Spotify, Instagram, SoundCloud etc had, built for human crafted local music. I'm very excited about it!
What's here so far:
- Infinite genre radio that you rate as you listen, plus mixtapes: a cross between a playlist and a live radio show that you curate and talk over.
- For bands: announcements, voice clips that play before or after your songs (blended in as the song fades), live chat with listeners, and stats.
- Day-one rotation and charts: every new song gets heard, and listeners' ratings make it rise or sink. No influencers needed (how ranking works).
- Human music first: AI-made songs stay out of the radio and the charts (AI policy; automatic detection is in the works).
- A local show calendar where one tap plays the bands on the bill, so no more copying band names and searching for their music. It's filled from several Knoxville sources; if you're elsewhere, add your city's venue calendars right on that page.
- Local or everywhere: pick your area at the top of any page to tune the radio, bands, charts and shows to your scene.
Why I'm building it: the manifesto.
Hope you enjoy! - Steve
Beta notes: ratings reset on launch day (anything you create stays), and the few test accounts and bands go away before launch.
